To be honest, I have used only Rice Cooker earlier. So in this post you can see some comparisons. The first impression I had when I opened the pack is, the size is little big than my previous rice cooker and little heavy but not much. But I love this because I don’t have to own 9 different appliances, all can be done with this one Cosori. As I have a small kitchen, that is really important to have minimal appliances.

Cooking is an Ease

I recently started replacing non stick appliances. So I was happy when I saw that Cosori had stainless steel inner pot.The inner pot is also heavy bottomed that it doesn’t burns when we use the saute’ mode. And also the pressure cooker lid is removable, so it doesn’t disturbs you when you are cooking in saute’ mode. I don’t see this feature in my Rice cooker.

When you lock and unlock the pressure cooker lid, it gives you a sound to make sure that the lid is closed. It also have a sturdy side handle that makes ease to lift it. That’s awesome right?

I already started cooking Sambar , Lentil Rice and this Mushroom Biriyani. I found this Cosori Pressure coooker cooks fast than my previous Rice cooker. And the bonus point is I don’t have to wash many dishes. Sauteing and cooking all can be done in same pot.I found you have to saute’ the onions on high to get sauteed fast,then you can adjust to medium or low. I cooked biriyani and pulao in programmed White Rice mode. It got cooked perfectly.

Yet to use steamer rack and bake cake. Will soon do that.

Cleaning

The stainless steel inner pot is dishwasher safe.

How did I make Mushroom Biriyani in Cosori

When I got to try Cosori for first time, I decided to make Mushroom biriyani to check how the rice is getting cooked in it. As my blog have less rice recipes , I thought this is apt to try. I used Basmati Rice to make this Mushroom Biriyani. I made this from start to end in Cosori 6 Quart 9 in 1 Pressure Cooker. How easy it is right? Making biriyani is no more a hectic job for me now. As I get to clean only one pot at the end.

Starting from the saute’ mode. Plug the cooker and select saute’ mode and press on. After sauteing the veggies and spices . Add the rice, switch it off and close the pressure cooker lid. Press white rice button and press on. Rest the pressure cooker will do it for you. You can rest or do other things. When the rice is done, the cooker beeps to let you know. Wait for natural release. It is indicated by red valve. When the valve is up, it means the pressure is still in. Do not open the lid. When the valve comes down, it is ready to open. Serve with your favorite raita.

INGREDIENTS

Basmati Rice – 1 1/2 Cup

Mushroom – 2 Cups ( cleaned and sliced)

Onion – 1/2 Cup ( thinly sliced)

Tomato – 1 big

Ginger Garlic paste – 1/2 Tsp

Green Chili – 2 Nos

Turmeric Powder – 1/4 Tsp

Red Chili Powder – 1/2 Tsp

Biriyani Masala – 1 1/2 Tsp

Cinnamon Stick – 1/2 Inch

Bay Leaf – 2 Nos

Cloves – 2 nos

Star Anise – 1

Elaichi/Cardamom – 2 nos

Fennel Seeds – 1/2 Tsp

Cilantro/ Coriander Leaves – As required

Water – 3 Cups

Oil/ Ghee – 2 Tsp

Salt – As Required

Lemon Juice – 1 tsp

METHOD

  • Soak Basmati Rice for atleast 30 minutes. Drain it and keep aside.
  • Grind Fennel seeds,ginger garlic paste, green chili and tomato to a paste.
  • Plug in the Cosori Pressure cooker, with it’s stainless steel inner pot in.
  • Press Saute’ button and then on button.
  • When it gets hot, add oil/ghee.
  • Add the whole spices, then add the sliced onions.
  • When sauteing onions,adjust the temperature to high to saute’ faster.
  • Then adjust the temperature back to medium, add the ground fennel seeds and tomato.
  • Add all the spice powders and saute’ till the raw smell of tomato goes.
  • Add mushroom and chopped cilantro.
  • Saute’ till the masala coats on the mushroom well and the water from mushrooms are evaporated. It is important, if not the rice cooked will be mushy.
  • Once the water evaporated, add soaked rice.
  • Give a gentle mix and add 3 cups of water along with lemon juice. Add required salt.
  • Close with pressure cooker lid and lock it.
  • Off the pressure cooker and then press the pre programmed white rice button. Press on.
  • When it is done, you can hear beep sound. Wait for natural release of pressure. You can check that by the position of red valve. If it is up, the pressure is still in and if it is down, ready to open the lid.

NOTES

  1. Adjust spices as per your requirements. You can avoid green chilies if you want less spicy.
  2. The rice to water ratio is 1:2. So adjust when you alter the rice quantity.
  3. If you are using other than basmati rice, then rice water ratio will change.
  4. I used store bought biriyani masala.

Ingredients
  • 1 1/2 Cup Basmati Rice

  • 3 Cups Water
  • 2 Tsp Ghee/Oil
  • 1 Tsp Lemon Juice
  • Salt As Required
Instructions

My Verdict

I loved this Cosori 6 Quart 9 in 1 Pressure cooker to the most. I loved the fact how fast it cooks and the food doesn’t get burned. It really worth buying if you don’t like to cook and wash lots of appliances.
