Beetroot Jelly? Does it sound weird? Trust me it tastes so good if you love beetroot. Even if you don’t, try this. You want to give your kid a healthy choice of eating their favorite snack, then try this, even no gelatin. You will never get store-bought jelly again.

So here we go with the recipe. Hope you will try this.

What is Agar – Agar?

Agar-Agar is a vegetarian substitute for Gelatin. So those who are vegan or vegetarian and do not use gelatin can use agar-agar instead. It can be used as a thickener for soups, ice cream or fruit preservatives.

Recipe to make Beetroot Jelly

Ingredients

Beetroot Juice – 1/2 cup ( see notes)

Sugar – 1 tbsp

Agar-Agar – 3/4 tsp

Method

  • Take all ingredients in a pan. Heat it thoroughly till the agar-agar and sugar are completely dissolved.
  • Have to keep stirring constantly.
  • When it’s completely dissolved, remove it from the heat and pour it into your molds or a bowl. (I did it in my mini muffin pan)
  • When it comes to room temperature, keep it in the fridge till it sets.
  • You can just scoop it from your molds.
  • Serve chilled.

Notes

  1. For Beetroot Juice, I microwaved peeled beetroot chunks till soft. Blend it with a little water in a blender and strain it.
  2. You can avoid sugar if you want. Beetroot itself has some sweetness.

  1. I bought agar agar to make jellies but then I read that the temperature to which you have to heat it is precise and I would need a thermometer. Is this not the case?
