Pazham Pori/Banana Fritters is a famous tea time snack of Kerala-a south Indian state. You can find this in every tea shop. Now you can make it at home without the concern of the oil they use.

Banana fritters stacked on a banana leaf.
Perfectly made pazham pori.

Pazham Pori/Banana fritters

Pazham Pori is usually made using ‘ Nenthran Pazham’ or ‘ Etha pazham’. A variety of banana you get plenty in Kerala. It is so firm even when ripe. It has lots of health benefits that it is usually given to toddlers by just steaming or sauteed with ghee. When it is raw, banana chips are made out of it which is another delicacy from Kerala.

But here in the U.S., I don’t find this variety often. Only rarely I get ‘ Nendran Pazham’ from Indian stores. At that time I never miss making this Pazham Pori. But actually I miss Nendran Pazham and making this snack often.

How to make Pazham Pori

The banana for making this should be neither overripe nor raw. If it’s overripe you can’t cut it into thin pieces and if it’s raw it wouldn’t taste good. The batter for these fritters is usually used maida/all purpose flour. But here I used whole wheat flour, a little bit of rice flour, sugar, and a pinch of salt. The batter should of a pancake batter consistency. Dipping the banana strips into the batter and deep fry. Yummy Pazham pori ready to indulge with  hot cup of tea. If it was raining then it’s perfect.

If you tried and enjoyed having this ,tag me #CookingwithSmile in Instagram so I could share your pictures. You can also follow me on Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest for updates.

I made this to send to our FB group Healthy Wellthy Cuisine where this time theme is for Indian Republic Day and we have to cook our specific state delicacies. And I chose my state Kerala.

Pazham pori is always a well received snack at home! I also like my frying with wheat flour rather than maida for this one… looks so tempting…
