Easy tomato chutney

This tomato chutney is one I make when I run out of onions. I have already shared Onion tomato chutney with coconut. This one is so easy that you need just 3 main ingredients apart from tempering.

How to make

Ingredients used

Ingredients used to make tomato chutney.

Tomato – I have used 1 big Roma tomato. You can use 2 medium-sized. You can also use a country variety of tomatoes to have more tartness.

Dry red chili – I have used on;y one dry red chili as it is too spicy. If your red chili is not spicy, increase accordingly.

Garlic – I have used 1 pod. You can increase it to 2 but not more than that as garlic flavor will over powder.

Method

Take a tomato, dry red chili, and garlic. Blend it smooth in a blender with a little quantity of water. Heat oil in a pan. Add chana dal and mustard seeds. When the mustard seeds crackle add curry leaves. Then add the blended tomato garlic puree. Add turmeric powder and the required salt. Let it boil until the raw smell goes away. Add water if the chutney gets thickening. Serve with dosa or uthapam.
