After a long week of celebrating and eating sweets for Diwali and Halloween, I have an easy and healthy raw papaya salad recipe to cleanse your palate and help in digestion. Once you have all the ingredients, you need just minutes to put them all together and serve. It can be served for a mid-afternoon snack or light lunch.
Raw papaya Salad
This papaya salad is my version of Thai green papaya salad aka Som Tom. I made this salad vegetarian with a simple lemon and honey dressing. The only time-consuming part is grating papaya and carrots. If you plan to serve later for a party, mix the vegetables in a bowl. Add the dressing just before you serve your guests and top it with crushed roasted peanuts.

The raw papaya should be hard and firm without any yellow/orange or soft spots. This helps in grating the papaya evenly. I have added carrots along with papaya, but feel free to use any veggies or fruits like pomegranate arils and green apples. Take the grated papaya and carrots in a bowl. Mix honey, lemon juice, chili flakes, and salt in a separate bowl. Pour the dressing over the grated papaya and carrots. Give a nice stir and top it with crushed peanuts and chopped cilantro.
What to serve with Raw papaya salad
I would like to serve this easy green papaya salad with air-fried chicken tenders, grilled fish, or fried salmon. You can also accompany it with a pomegranate mocktail, pineapple lemonade, mango lemonade, or simple lemonade.

Ingredients
Raw papaya – ½ of a small papaya
Carrot – 1 big
Cilantro – a few chopped
Roasted peanuts crushed – 1 teaspoon
For dressing
Honey – 1 1/2 Tablespoon
Lemon juice – 1 teaspoon
Chili flakes – as required
Salt – as required
Instructions
- Peel the skin of raw papaya and carrot. Deseed papaya.
- Grate papaya and carrot.
- Mix all the ingredients for dressing in a separate bowl. Pour this dressing over the grated papaya and carrot.
- Give a nice stir. Top it with cilantro and crushed peanuts. Serve immediately.

- When you choose papaya, make sure it is completely raw without any yellow/orange or soft spots. This will help you grate it evenly.
- You can adjust any ingredients here as you prefer. If you don’t like your salad sweet, reduce the honey quantity and use 1 ½ tsp of lemon juice.
- If you want spicy, increase the quantity of chili flakes or add chopped green chilies.
