This Caramel Bread Pudding is an easy dessert that can be made without any fuss. This pudding is not baked but steamed. I have given both stovetop and Instant Pot methods.

Steamed Caramel Bread pudding
The bread pudding is an easy and delicious way to use your leftover stale bread. Stale bread is perfect for making bread pudding, unlike fresh bread. Making this pudding is so easy that you don’t need any special equipment, just a blender, and a steamer. A stainless steel pan to make the caramel.

This pudding is creamy, unlike other bread puddings with chunks of bread. I have used whole wheat bread for this recipe. You are most welcome to use white bread.
How to make caramel bread pudding
The process starts with making the caramel. Use a stainless steel pan to make the caramel. Take sugar and water in the pan and wait till it turns golden brown. Do not stir with a spoon. Just twirl the pan till the color turns dark golden. Switch off and pour the caramel into the bowl you are making the pudding. You have to act quickly in this step, or else the caramel gets hard.

Then take the remaining ingredients, in a blender and pulse it till all blend. Pour it into the bowl with caramel. Cover this bowl with foil and poke a few holes in the foil. Place it inside the steamer and steam it for 10 to 15 minutes or till the inserted toothpick comes out clean. Place the bowl in the refrigerator for 30 minutes to 1 hour. Then invert the bowl on a plate and unmould the pudding. Cut and serve your guests.

What bread to use to make bread pudding?
I used whole wheat bread to make this pudding but you can also use white bread.
Can I make this bread pudding in Instant Pot?
Absolutely, you can make this in your Instant Pot. Just follow all the steps until you cover the pudding bowl with the foil and prick it. Pour a cup of water into your inner pot of Instant Pot. Place the trivet or steamer stand. Then place the foil-covered bowl carefully on the trivet. Close the lid. Press the manual button and set the cook time to 12 minutes. Once done, let the pressure release naturally and remove the bowl from the instant pot. Refrigerate the bowl for 30 minutes to 1 hour. Cut and serve.

This is my old post which I originally posted a few years back. We bloggers tend to avoid our old posts which is absolutely not good. Looks beautiful! I’ve only had American style bread pudding, but this looks more elegant 🙂 Love that it’s steamed!
Thank you
Yum! And you had me at no mess!
Thank you
Bread pudding is delicious, but caramel bread pudding. Amazing.
Thank you
How long should we steam in on the stove top approximately
You have to steam for 15 minutes. After that please check by inserting a tooth pick. Have explained in detail in the post. Let me know if you have any questions.
I just have a question regarding doing the bread pudding in the instant pot. It says the bread pudding is steamed but when making it in the instant pot, it’s cooked at high pressure instead of the steam function?
Apologies for the confusion. The actual recipe is steamed on the stovetop. In addition, I have given how to make it in the Instant Pot. You can try steam option in the Instant pot too.
What a lovely idea to use leftovr bread in such a decadent dessert ! wow… I see myself making this soon.. can the egg be skipped here, Lathiya ?
Yes, you can and try to replace it with egg replacer or Custard powder. I haven’t tried that way though.
Lovely dessert to make sometime though I too must try with the egg replacer. Looks so delectable!
Thank you
Wow, This looks like an easy peasy yet delicious recipe to make using bread, and also a good use of left over bread I would say. Must try.
Thank you, dear.
With an easy to follow recipe, the steamed bread pudding looks delectable. Would love making an eggless version sometime soon. Any substitute for egg in this recipe ?
Thank you, Poonam. You can try any egg replacer. I haven’t tried though.
I’ve enjoyed bread puddings but have never tried making it at home. Your simple recipe of a steamed version looks so doable and it looks delicious.
