Carrot Raita

Raita are yogurt-based accompaniment usually had with spicy rice dishes like Biriyani. There are various types of Raita. You can check our Cucumber Raita, Onion raita, Mango raita . All raita is similar in preparation with yogurt as the base. So, it is simple to make. Just add the veggie of your preference. Here I give you Carrot Raita, from the name you get the veggie I added here is Carrot. This is slightly different from other raita I  made earlier as I added tempering in it to give a nutty taste.

A plate with a bowl of carrot raita, rice, cucumber slice, and lemon wedge.

How to make carrot raita

As I said earlier, it’s so easy to make. All you need is good, thick yogurt. Then mix salt and cumin powder. Adding cumin powder is purely optional to give a taste. If you do not have it, you can skip it. Then add grated carrots. in a pan, temper mustard seeds and curry leaves, and pour them into the raita. Mix it and serve it along with any spicy rice dish. I served this carrot raita with Mushroom Biriyani. You can also serve this with Fried Chicken Biriyani, Vegetable Biriyani.

Add salt & cumin powder to yogurt
Add grated Carrots
Then add tempering to it

NOTES

  1. Cumin powder is totally optional but it gives a nice flavor to raita. So I usually add in all my raita. If you don’t have cumin powder, make your own by dry roasting some cumin in a pan and grinding it. You can store this powder in an airtight container for the future.
  2. Tempering is optional. If you do not want to temper just avoid it.
  3. I used coconut oil for tempering. You can use any vegetable oil.

carrot raita is an aromatic raita variation. Love it with any paratha or rice dishes. Just add some roasted peanut it will give some crunch.
