What is Gulab Jamun
Gulab Jamun is a milk-based dessert popular in India. It resembles the American Doughnut holes soaked in sugar syrup. Gulab jamuns are mainly made of milk solids. The traditional Gulab jamuns are made by making the milk solids from scratch by reducing the milk and making it into a dough. It is then, deep-fried in ghee (clarified butter) or oil in medium flame till golden. Then those jamuns are soaked in sugar syrup for at least 2 hours or overnight.

Now the process has become easy with ready-to-use milk powder or khoya or ready-to-make Jamun powders. Here is one such Gulab Jamun recipe I made from MTR Ready-mix. There is a variation of this Gulab jamun called Kala Jamun. The Kala Jamun looks the same as Gulab Jamun but darker in color. Since the name Kala Jamun – Kala in Hindi means black.
What is Bread Gulab Jamun
Bread Gulab Jamun is an instant version of Gulab Jamun. The dough of Jamun is made using bread and milk. It is so easy to make for anyone. This bread gulab jamuns are a great idea to serve for surprise guests.

What bread to use to make Bread Gulab Jamun?
You can use whole wheat bread and white bread. I have tried both and found both taste good.

How to make Bread Gulab Jamun?
To start with, make sugar syrup first. Take one cup of sugar with one cup of water. Heat this until the sugar dissolves. Add crushed cardamom to it. Remove it from the flame.

To make bread Gulab Jamun, take the bread slices and trim off the sides. It is optional but I prefer to trim it off. Then dip the bread slices one by one in milk. Gently squeeze the bread slice in between your palm to remove excess milk. If there is too much liquid, it will end up with sticky dough and the jamuns will be oily. Repeat with all bred slices and take these squeezed slices in a bowl. Mash it with your hands to make a smooth dough. Make small balls out of this dough. Deep fry in hot oil on medium flame till it turns golden. Once fried, soak it in sugar syrup for 1 to 2 hours.
