Homemade Mango Jam

Jam is a form of preserving fruits, so one can relish it even if the season of that particular fruit is over. There’s nothing quite like the golden sweetness of a perfectly ripe mango — and mango jam captures that sunshine in a jar! Made with just a few ingredients, this homemade mango jam is a delicious way to preserve the taste of summer. Plus, no artificial preservatives — just pure fruit magic in every spoonful! Whether you spread it on warm toast, swirl it into yogurt, or use it in desserts, this vibrant and fruity jam brings a burst of summer to every bite.

Jam is loved by people of all ages. Every household will store jams to whip up breakfast on busy mornings or to pack lunch for kids. If we have jam ready, we can make a quick, interesting, kid-friendly breakfast. Personally, I pack sandwiches for my daughter’s lunchbox. So I have to think about the different filling.

In the initial days, I used to buy jam from stores. However, I was concerned about the sugar level and preservatives they add to the store-bought jams. So I decided to make it at home. The jam stays good for more than two weeks if stored properly. Store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Use only a fresh, dry spoon.

Ingredients used

For detailed ingredients, check the recipe card.

Instant Pot Method

Switch on the Instant Pot. Add mango chunks and sugar. Give a nice stir. Close the lid and set the timer for 3 minutes. Once it is done, let the pressure release naturally. Open the lid and mash the mango chunks with a masher. Press the sauté button and add the lemon juice. To make it interesting, I added a dash of red chili flakes. Stir the jam till it thickens. Once it cools down completely, transfer it to a clean, air-tight container. Always use a dry and clean spoon.

Stovetop Method

In a wide pan, take ripe mango chunks. Saute for two minutes. Then add sugar. The sugar melts and becomes a little watery. Stir it occasionally so it doesn’t burn. Cook on a medium flame. Mash the chunks with the ladle or potato masher. Add the lemon juice and a dash of chilli flakes (if using). Cook it till the jam thickens. Switch off.

How do you check if the jam is done?

When the jam starts to thicken, when you make a streak with a spoon, it should stay (as shown in the picture above).

NOTES

  1. Adjust the sugar depending on the sweetness of the mango.
  2. Always remember to use a fresh, dry spoon.
  3. Adding red chili flakes is optional, but it gives an interesting punch to the sweetness of the jam.
Love jam? You also need to try pineapple vanilla jam and strawberry jam.

Mango jam sounds like a great idea. It’s so easy to find mango here and we actually grow a lot at home. Love that you don’t add any preservatives to the recipe!
