Why Sweet Potato Roti

Roti / Paratha is one of the staple food in North India. Rotis are usually made with Whole wheat flour. They are had with vegetable or Non-Vegetarian curries. You can also use this as wraps with your favorite stuffing. These Rotis make a great choice for kids’ lunch boxes.

I made these Sweet Potato Roti as my way of making my kids eat Sweet Potato. Though I love Sweet Potato, somehow my kids don’t like it. I felt, maybe I haven’t introduced that at a young age. So now, when I give them just boiled sweet potato as I used to have, they don’t like it. I just added that mashed boiled sweet potato to the make their favorite roti. Mom’s idea won. Tada Sweet Potato Roti worked.

How to make Sweet Potato Roti

Making this Sweet Potato Roti is an easy thing. Make these Instant pot sweet potatoes and remove the skin once cooled down. Add all ingredients to the food processor and pulse it at low speed to make it a non-sticky dough. I used this food processor which makes my everyday job easy. Then make small balls out of it and roll. Then cook both sides of the rolled roti. Delicious Sweet Potato Roti is ready to serve. You may also try Cheese Quesadilla with this sweet potato roti.

Frequently asked questions

Can I add any other puree?

Yes, you can add another puree like Pumpkin, spinach, mashed potato, or carrots to add flavor to the normal roti. That way you can include veggies in your kid’s diet without even knowing. They will be excited by different colors and tastes.

Can I freeze the dough?

Yes, you can freeze the dough. That’s what I do. I make the dough in bulk and freeze it in a zip-lock bag in small portions. Thaw it in the refrigerator or countertop before you need to use it.

Can I use any other flour?

Yes, you can use any gluten-free flour or mix of whole wheat flour, ragi flour, besan (chickpea flour), or Multi grain flour.

What to serve with sweet potato roti

You can pair  this Sweet Potato Roti with any  gravy. You can choose any from Mixed Vegetable White Kurma, Mushroom Gravy, Matar Paneer, Egg Curry, Pepper Chicken Curry, Andhra Chicken Curry. You can also just spread Pineapple Jam, Strawberry Jam or Mango Jam and roll it which your kids will love.

Adding sweet potato puree to a roti dough, that is such a good recipe. Its a great way to get kids to enjoy sweet potato. And am sure the lovely yellow colour would be tempting enough.
